Welcome back! What better way to start the year than with a Reading Newsletter to see what new books are out and to get some inspiration of what to read first. Our featured book is the newest addition to the wonderful book series by Rachel Bright and our recommended read comes from Mr Carson-Doughty. Finally, our 9 books are all set in or about schools, however these schools may be very different to ours and often suprising or magical things happen! We hope you enjoy reading

Once again, we have been accredited with the Platinum School Games Mark for our commitment to PE, Physical Activity and School Sport. The award is given by the School Games and celebrates the fantastic work that our PE team do, not only in curriculum PE lessons, but also in extra-curricular sporting activities. We are proud to have had the opportunity to engage the vast majority of our KS2 children in inter-school sport this year, as well as giving all children in the school

Here at Winyates we have had a fantastic start to our Sports Week with all children taking part in 2 hours of outdoor activities with the Outdoor Education Company. This includes rock climbing, laser tag, aeroball and circus skills! We cannot wait for more activities across the week including an inflatables day with YDP and Boogie Bounce.

Year 3 opened their own 'heladería' at the end of their unit on ice creams in Spanish. They worked brilliantly in groups buying and selling ice creams. Using 'Quisiera...' to ask for the ice cream of their choice - even specifying 'un cucurucho o una tarrina'. Well done Year 3 - you did brilliantly and I'm so glad you enjoyed this lesson. This week the children have been busy creating their very own superhero fruits and vegetables inspired by our story, Supertato – Run Veggies Run! 🦸🥕🍅 The children used their imagination and creativity to design colourful characters, thinking carefully about superhero powers, costumes, and facial expressions. Alongside this activity, they developed fine motor skills, communication, and confidence in sharing their ideas with others. We loved hearing all about the brave veget

Alongside our story Errol's Garden, the children have been exploring planting and learning about what plants need to grow. We discussed the different parts of a plant and discovered that plants need sunlight, water, soil, and care to stay healthy. ☀️💧🌿 The children enjoyed planting seeds and observing changes as they begin to grow, while developing their observation skills, curiosity, and understanding of the world around them. 💚

The children used their mathematical thinking throughout their play and outdoor learning as they counted, compared, measured, spotted patterns, and explored shapes around them. The children searched for numbers in the environment, compared different sizes and quantities, created repeating patterns using natural objects, and used mathematical language during their investigations and play. Children have been exploring the traditional tale Jack and the Beanstalk through oral storytelling and independent writing. 🌱📚 We have been incredibly proud of the progress the children are making in their writing skills. The children confidently retold the story using rich vocabulary, repeated story language, and expressive storytelling before applying their ideas into their own written work. During writing sessions, the children focused on: ✏️ Correct letter formation ✏️

Today we were developing problem-solving and communication skills through imaginative play! 🌟 The children worked together to create their own ideas, share resources, and explore different roles within their play. We saw some fantastic teamwork, creative thinking, and confidence as they negotiated, asked questions, and solved little challenges independently.

Alongside our story The Lighthouse Keeper's Lunch, the children have been busy exploring food preparation through play and hands-on learning. The children used playdough to create different lunches for Mr Grinling, enjoyed recreating the role of Mrs Grinling in the kitchen area, and carefully followed step-by-step instructions to make their own sandwiches for snack time. 🍅🧀🥒 Through these activities, the children developed their fine motor skills, communication, imaginatio

Our Year 3 pupils took part in an exciting geography fieldwork project, exploring local human and physical features. They collected data through observation and worked together to record their findings. Back in class, pupils used Google Sheets to present their data by creating graphs, helping them to analyse their results. This hands-on experience supported their geographical understanding while developing key digital skills.

Year 3 pupils explored how to design and build structures that can withstand earthquakes. They learned that buildings need to be strong yet flexible, and used a range of materials to create models that could absorb impact and reduce the risk of collapse. By testing and improving their designs, the children developed their problem-solving skills and gained an understanding of how engineers create safer, more resilient buildings.

Today we celebrated World Book Day with a wonderful day full of stories, imagination, and creativity! On Thursday 12th February we hosted a Year 3/4 tag rugby tournament here at Winyates Primary School. We welcomed other schools from across our group for a round robin event. In the first match we played against Paston Ridings Primary School and the children started with a bang, securing a 7-2 victory. Next up was a match against Orton St Johns Church School and once again our team prevailed, winning 8-3. Finally, we played Barnack Primary School in a winner takes all face off

Year 5 have had a great start to their residential at Norfolk Lakes. They arrived safely and enjoyed getting settled into their rooms before heading off to their first activity, which was rifle shooting. Next the children had dinner before ending the day with a fencing session. All of the children had a good night and are eager to start their activities today!
