Children have been exploring the traditional tale Jack and the Beanstalk through oral storytelling and independent writing. 🌱📚
We have been incredibly proud of the progress the children are making in their writing skills. The children confidently retold the story using rich vocabulary, repeated story language, and expressive storytelling before applying their ideas into their own written work.
During writing sessions, the children focused on:
✏️ Correct letter formation
✏️ Building simple sentences independently
✏️ Using finger spaces between words
✏️ Hearing and writing initial, middle, and ending sounds
✏️ Developing confidence when writing captions and sentences
It has been wonderful to see the children becoming more independent writers, showing increased stamina, care in presentation, and pride in their work. We especially loved reading their exciting descriptions of the giant, the magical beanstalk, and Jack’s adventure to the castle in the clouds! ☁️✨
Oral storytelling continues to play an important role in supporting communication, vocabulary development, imagination, and early literacy skills.
Well done Reception — your progress in writing has been fantastic! 💚
