World Book Day

As part of our drive to maintain, promote and engage pupils in reading, Winyates School is taking part in World Book Day on Thursday 5th  March 2020.On this special day, your child can come to school dressed as their favourite character from any book.

One member from each class will have the chance to win our ‘best dressed’ competition, and win a book of their choice! They will also receive a World Book Day £1 voucher, given on the day, which can be used at any participating retailer. It would be good to discuss with your child different characters from their favourite books to get some ideas. We will also be hosting a ‘decorate a potato’ competition (see examples on reverse). We would like children to decorate a potato to look like their favourite character from a book.

Children can bring their potatoes into school with £1 to enter and all money will be donated to The Book Trust who are the UK’s largest reading charity. Please bring all potatoes into school by Friday 5th March when judging will take place. We will have a EYFS/KS1 winner and a KS2 winner, each will select a book as a prize! We thank you for your continued support in making this a very enjoyable day and look forward to seeing some amazing costumes and potatoes!
