On Friday 16th May our Year 5/6 NFL Flag Football team travelled to Cambridge to take part in the NFL Eastern Regional Finals. There were twelve teams in total, which were split into 4 groups.
In our first group game we had a tough start and lost to St John's Church School, before bouncing back incredibly well in our second game where we won 28-12 against Olney Middle School. This meant we qualified to move on into the quarter finals.
Our quarter final started the knockout phase and we faced Barnack Primary School. This was another tough match as Barnack had won the Peterborough event. However, our children battled hard and managed to come out victorious with a 20-6 win. We then moved on to the semi final, where we were drawn against reiging Eastern regional champions, Houghton Primary School. Our children showed incredible determination and solid defending in order to limit opportunities for Houngton while scoring 2 incredible touchdowns of our own. With only seconds left on the clock Hougton had a chance to score but our defence stood strong and we managed to grind out a very tight 12-7 win!
The children then moved on to the final where they once again met St Johns Church School and unfortunately were defeated. However, all of the children should be truly proud of their efforts with a special mention to Omarr who was given the award of MVP out of all of the children taking part for all 12 schools.. They were all incredible and helped us to finish in an outstanding 2nd place in the Eastern Regional Finals, well done team!
