Meet our Team

I first wanted to be a teacher when I spent summer holidays helping my dad in his school, getting his classroom ready! I would boss all the pretend children around and write on the blackboard loudly! I have been so lucky to meet some very exciting people in my life and each one of them inspires me to be the best version of myself that I can! We have a wonderful school and I feel very proud of the school as the place it is now.

About me...
Mrs C Firth
Executive Head Teacher

From an early age, I enjoyed helping others and teaching was a natural choice for me. My own primary school days were happy ones and I remember feeling proud when I learnt new things and achieved successes, however small. I want your children to feel the same sense of pride and achievement about their time at Winyates. Away from school I enjoy keeping fit and spending time with my young family.

About me...
Mr R Colley
Head of School

I have been teaching at Winyates Primary School since 2011 and thoroughly enjoy seeing the progress our children make. I have a real passion for PE and believe these are so important for all children and I am keen in developing a love of this in everyone I teach. In addition to this, I especially enjoy taking the children to tournaments where they always make me proud.
Finally, my love of sport continues outside of school where I play for the City of Peterborough Hockey Club.

About me...
Mr M Carson-Doughty
Assistant Head of School/Year 3 & 4 Teacher

From a young age, I knew I wanted to be a teacher. I was inspired by my wonderful Year 4 teacher, who made learning exciting and meaningful, and I grew up wanting to be just like her. I chose a career in education because I believe every child deserves the chance to thrive, achieve, and feel proud of themselves. I am passionate about supporting children to reach their full potential and to do so with courage, kindness, ambition, and excellence – values that sit at the heart of our school. As Assistant Headteacher, what I enjoy most is working with both staff and pupils to create an environment where everyone feels valued, supported, and able to succeed. I truly love working here and feel incredibly proud to be part of such a dedicated, caring community.

After teaching within EYFS for 14 years and I still have a continued passion for helping young children take their first steps as a learner. It is so rewarding to help make a difference in children's lives – seeing them enthusiastic and motivated about each new experience. I aim to inspire children to become curious about their learning within a nurturing environment for them to thrive in. I am looking forward to joining the ‘Winyates family’ to continue to give children endless opportunities to become lifelong learners.

About me...
Mrs Richardson
Reception Teaching Assistant

I chose a career in teaching because I have a deep passion for helping others and a strong desire to make a positive difference in children’s lives. From a young age, I was inspired by the incredible and creative teachers I had in primary school—teachers who made me believe that anything was possible. Their impact stayed with me, and it’s this same sense of possibility and inspiration that I now strive to create for the children I teach. What I love most about my role is the opportunity to be creative and to design lessons that not only engage and challenge but also allow children to express themselves and grow in confidence. Every day is different, and I feel incredibly lucky to play a part in shaping young minds and helping them discover their potential.

I became a teacher to help children achieve their dreams and to inspire them to become the best version of themselves—just as I saw my father do throughout his own teaching career. Every day, I feel privileged to be part of their journey, nurturing their growth and celebrating their progress.

I became a teacher because I’ve always wanted to make a real difference in people’s lives. I love working with children and helping them grow, not just academically but as people too. Seeing those “lightbulb” moments when something clicks is one of the best feelings in the world. Teaching lets me share what I love, keep learning every day, and be there for students when they need support or encouragement.

About me...
Ms Holland
Year 3 Teacher

I have very strong ties with Winyates as I used to be a pupil here, all 5 of my children have also attended Winyates! I love reading, and often have more than 3 books on the go at one time. Winyates truly feels like a large family and I really love seeing how everyone learns and grows over the years.

About me...
Mrs Rymill

I first volunteered to read with children back in 1993/4. I then had the opportunity to apply for the Midday Supervisor position in 2005, as my children were already at Winyates. Soon after, I was offered a teaching assistant role. It was the best thing ever, as I love working with the children, helping them and seeing their faces ‘light up’ when they achieve something they thought they couldn’t do. I also speak Italian. I’m proud to be part of such a great team, and I can honestly say, I really love working at Winyates.

My main goal in teaching is to make a positive impact in children's lives and encourage children to reach their full potential and achieve anything they set their mind to. About me...
Mr Mucklin
Year 6 Teacher

I love seeing children develop as they realise their potential, becoming confident and independent as they take on new challenges, whether in or outside of school. In my previous career I volunteered as a reading buddy and a governor at my son's school which is when I realised how wonderful it was working with children, watching their curiosity and learning grow so I decided to retrain and become a teacher. I am determined to give the children in my class the best opportunities during their time with me at school. I am always inspired by how much we learn from them too as we see how they show kindness, courage and determination every day.

About me...
Mrs Proud
Year 6 Teacher

I absolutely loved my school days - they really can be the best days of your life! School has certainly changed since I was at primary school, but the end goal is still the same. My job is so rewarding and I enjoy watching the children of Winyates succeed. As an adult I am always learning new things myself, so I understand the importance of education. I am lucky to work in such an amazing school. When I'm not at work, I will most definitely have my head in a book. Reading is my biggest passion in life and I am constantly adding books to my collection. I also have a very spoilt dog waiting for me at home every day, who I love spending time with.

About me...
Mrs Cannon
Year 6 Teaching Assistant

I have always loved language learning so when the opportunity came for me to teach English to Spanish primary children in Madrid I was incredibly excited. I loved the two years I taught there, but was keen to come back to the UK and share my passion for languages here. I feel incredibly humbled that I get to share my love of languages and celebrate the varied cultures both within our school, local community and the world with the children. I endeavour to spark a love of learning languages in our children so they will continue learning languages well into the future.

About me...
Mr Hodgkins
PE Teacher

I always enjoyed PE in school whether it was learning in a classroom or taking part in active sessions. When I had the opportunity to do teaching like this for a job I couldn’t turn it down as I always enjoyed helping out with the younger children with their PE lessons at school and now I’m loving every minute of it.
My favourite sport is football, I’ve watched and played it my whole life and have been a season ticket holder at Peterborough United for the last 6 years. The best game I’ve ever watched live in those 6 years was when we scored a 90th minute penalty against Lincoln to draw 3-3 securing us promotion to the Championship.
