Year 6 have been working on their engineering skills as they have been imitating the creation and ingenuity displayed by the Mayans throughout their rapid expansion through the ages. They started off by exploring the concepts of levers and pulleys before choosing appropriate materials to design and build catapults. After analysing and critiquing these designs they moved onto more complex mechanical structures. Through a series of scenarios and problems they had to apply their Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths skills and tried to adapt, experiment and tinker their way to a successful structure just like the Mayans did thousands of years ago.
