School Games Summer County Finals

Today we took two teams to participate at the School Games Summer County Finals Day. These teams were competing in the Year 5/6 Small Schools Quadkids Athletics County Final and the Year 3/4 Rapid Fire Threes Cricket Final. The children arrived at the tournament excited for the opportunity to pit themselves against the most talented children in the entire county of Cambridgeshire.

During the athletics tournament the children took part in four events, which were the 600m run, 75m sprint, standing long jump and the vortex throw. The children participated brilliantly within these events, despite the hot conditions making the running events tricky. All of the children tried hard and some managed to win their event for their group. At the end of the tournament all of the points that the children gained were combined and they managed to finish in 4th place overall. Well done to the team for their fantastic efforts.

Within the cricket tournament the children faced off against teams from around the County in the rapid fire threes game. This involved the children batting balls off a tee before running as a pair to score as many points as possible, while the fielders tried to return the balls as quickly as possible. The children played against all of the other teams, meaning that they played 5 matches in total. The scores were as follows:

  • Winyates 58 vs Wyton 32 – Win.
  • Winyates 38 vs Priory 34 – Win.
  • Winyates 63 vs Sutton 48 – Win.
  • Winyates 68 vs Over 64 – Win.
  • Winyates 30 vs Meldreth 20 – Win.

This meant that the team incredibly managed to win every single match, which was an outstanding achievement! As a result, of this exceptional performance the team finished in 1st place and are now the County Rapid Fire Threes Cricket Champions!

Well done to all of the children who took part today they were all brilliant, and Mr Carson-Doughty and Mr McClean were very proud of them all.
