Accelerated Reader (Renlearn) is an information technology based reading programme that the pupils of Winyates (Yr2 to Yr6), interact with. Children are guided in choosing from a wide range of genre and ability- levelled books from our well-stocked library.
After reading, pupils use their personal log in, to take a short comprehension quiz (using a range of reading skills). They have a success target of 90% accuracy (which can be adjusted to suit individual challenge). The programme has different levels of reading criteria which pupils work through, receiving certification for their achievements along the way.
The Accelerated Reader programme is also a diagnostic tool, showing strengths and weakness in reading for individual children and providing strategies for developing these skills. It also monitors how much and how often pupils read in school and at home.
At Winyates, pupils are always eager to read and interact with this programme and to share their achievements with peers and whole school community .
It is very important, therefore, that pupils bring their Renlearn books home daily and read regularly (at least 3 times per week for 30 mins = 11/2 per week home reading).
Parents… don’t forget to sign your child’s journal each time you hear your child read at home. This qualifies them to receive a raffle ticket which is drawn weekly, in our Celebration Assembly, and could win them a brand new book of their choice and be included in our weekly Newsletter!
